Let us introduce you to three of our greenest monitors yet, the 241B7QGJEB, 242B1G and 272B1G, as well as address the three main things that you should know about them.
To benefit you and the planet, all three of these Philips Monitors are built to be sustainable. It all starts with their external housing, which consists entirely of lightweight, 85% post consumer recycled plastics that are free of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and BFR (brominated flame retardants). In an effort to further eradicate toxins and adhere to major international standards, such as EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), these monitors are also free of hazardous substances like lead, mercury and halogen.
Additionally, both the 241B7QGJEB and 242B1G models are TCO Certified Edge. This certification is given only to best in class IT products that meet leading-edge sustainability criteria and go beyond existing eco-labeling programs. To reduce waste, careful thought has also been given to the monitors’ packaging, as they are boxed in 100% recyclable paper cushions and packaging materials. This eliminates the use of EPE (expanded polyethylene), which is a non-biodegradable plastic.
Known as Philips’ “greenest monitors”, these models feature a new energy-saving design with super-efficient power supply. There are also two smart sensors to help you save energy, the first being the PowerSensor. A built-in ‘people sensor,’ PowerSensor uses harmless infrared signals to detect whether you are at your workspace. If you leave your desk, PowerSensor will sense this and automatically reduce the monitor’s brightness. You may not even notice it happening, but this action can give you big savings. Not only can it reduce your energy costs by up to 70% – 80%, depending on the model, it can also help prolong the monitor’s lifespan.
The second smart sensor, known as LightSensor, works by analyzing a room’s lighting conditions and adjusting the monitor’s picture brightness accordingly. Besides cutting down power usage for more savings, this feature will also provide you with the right level of brightness and eye comfort, no matter the time of day. To ensure no energy is wasted when your monitor is shut down, we have included the 0 watt hard switch at the back of these monitors. By flicking this switch, you will completely cut off the AC power supply to your monitor. Thanks to these energy-efficient features, these B Line monitors have earned a higher EU EEI A++ energy class, as well as EnergyStar 7.0 and EnergyStar 8.0 ratings, respectively.
With about 50 million tonnes being generated each year, electronic waste or e-waste has become one of humankind’s fastest-growing waste streams. Improper disposal and handling of e-waste end up leaching toxins into the soil, ground water and air which is a hazard to humans and the planet. One of the ways that you can take action is by reducing the potential toxicity of your own e-waste. You can do this by investing in electronic products, like display monitors, that are made to be more sustainable. Let Philips Monitors help you to make a responsible and green IT purchase.
